A dental worker let out a huge scream before falling to her knees in joyous tears, as she approached a chair in her practice to discover her military husband, who had been serving overseas for the past 10 months.
Elizabeth Ayomide Oyemomi could not contain her emotions when the man in the chair turned out to be her husband, Damilare Victor Oyemomi.
Damilare, 30, is a Sergeant E5 with the Minnesota National Guard, and in March 2021, he was deployed to Kuwait for six months, where he was also sent to Saudi Arabia for a further mission.
Wanting to make his reunion extra special, Damilare asked if Elizabeth, 30, could secretly be removed from the social media pages that provide information to families tied to his unit.
Then, with two weeks to go until his actual return date, he told Lizy some unfortunate news: it was likely that he’d have to travel to Jordon for a further six-month deployment.
As part of those discussions, Damilare, knowing that Lizy had recently started working in a dental office, asked for her place of work, making up an elaborate story that it was a military request to have a family contact on file.
Then, two days before arriving home, Damilare called Lizy’s boss and asked if they could help with a surprise, and on the day itself, January 29, Lizy was given a little extra lab work.
While she was doing this, Damilare’s friend drove him to the practice, and he was snuck into the Community Dental Care, in Applewood, Minnesota, where he took a seat and waited for Elizabeth to enter.
Just before she did, Damilare – who is originally from Nigeria – started his phone’s camera rolling and handed the device over for someone to the wholesome reunion on video.
He said: “While the boss went to call her my mind was racing – I couldn’t wait to see her.
“I was shocked!
“I didn’t know I would make her feel that way. It was so big that I felt really emotional and I couldn’t even stand up for a few seconds.
“I thought about it to be the gift of coming home because I loved military reunion videos, even before I got deployed.
“Everyone has been sending love – our video has been trending both in my home country and in the U.S.”
