A new mom cried tears of joy when she was handed her newborn baby in the hospital and noticed a message, “Mommy, will you marry my daddy?” written across the youngster’s onesie.
Autumn Johnson and her boyfriend Logan Eby, from Bellingham, Washington, have supported each other through the good times and the bad, having met at Narcotics Anonymous in the summer of 2022.
At the time, Logan was three years clean, Autumn five. Over the months that followed that first meeting, the pair realized their relationship was “something special,” Autumn said, and they started to plan out a future together.
Autumn’s heart was warmed by how her two older daughters took to Logan, 28, as if he were their father, and when Autumn fell pregnant in June 2023, Logan thought the baby’s birth would be the perfect time to ask for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage.
After Autumn, 27, had undergone an emergency C-section to welcome her baby daughter, Esmerae, into the world, she was wheeled back into the recovery room. During that time, Logan worked on his big surprise.
Having sourced a onesie with a message across to pop the big question, Logan then waited next to Autumn as a nurse brought Esmerae to Autumn.

As soon as the 27-year-old read the message, she immediately began to cry, while Logan got down on one knee to ask if Autumn would marry him.
Autumn said: “I said ‘yes’ through tears to my happily ever after.
“I was initially shocked, followed by the happiest feeling in my life.
“This was a whirlwind of emotions after such a long, intense and scary labor and delivery.

“I was hurting and sad that I didn’t get the birth I desired with her, and it’s almost like all the pain went away the moment she was placed in my arms again.
“On top of seeing Logan smiling beside me as he dropped to one knee, it was overwhelmingly the most beautiful moment of my life.”
