Navy Sailor Surprises Cousin at Quinceanera, But She Thought He Was Still Deployed

She expected a normal night of traditions until a familiar face stepped in at the perfect moment.

A teenager was brought to tears when her sailor cousin returned home from deployment to surprise her on the dance floor at her quinceaƱera.

As the two oldest grandchildren in their family, ChrisTorres, 22, and Alex Caba, 15, share an incredibly close bond, their family members said.

Chris sees Alexa more like a little sister, and so when Alexa was planning her quinceaƱera, he knew he wanted to be at home in New Jersey for the big occasion.

The 22-year-old joined the United States Navy in 2021, and having last seen Alexa more than a year and a half before her quinceaƱera, Chris then headed off on a 10-month deployment on the on the USS Carl Vinson.

Chris waited for his cue, then surprised Alexa with an emotional reunion hug.

But when he received the news that he would be home around a week before the big day, Chris started planning a surprise with his mom Evelyn, 42, and a few of Alexa’s family members.

On September 27, the day of Alexa’s quinceaƱera, Chris snuck into Adelphia Restaurant & Events, in Deptford, New Jersey, where he waited for his cue.

Then, right before the changing of Alexa’s shoes and the special family dances, Chris was called to the dance floor, where Alexa was standing.

The teenager immediately covered her mouth in shock, before bawling tears of happiness as her cousin gave her an emotional reunion hug.

There were more than 200 people in attendance, Evelyn said, and tears flowed throughout the room at the pair’s first hug in more than 18 months.

Evelyn added: “I was crying while standing to the side.

ā€œSeeing Alexa’s reaction and how much she missed him just melted my heart.

“It reminded me how strong their bond is, despite distance and time apart.
