A hiker surprised to see a photographer from her childhood struck up a conversation with him while failing to notice his subject was her boyfriend, who’d flown cross country and was ready to propose.
Megan Urbano, from Tampa, Florida, immediately recognized photographer Jeramie Lu when she and her friends completed a two-hour hike back home in Reno, Nevada, where she grew up.
She started up a conversation with Jeramie, who had shot her senior high photos, and she knew from the photography scene in the city – but failed to notice her boyfriend, Cameron, was standing nearby.
Megan, being a keen amateur photographer, hoped to discuss gear with Jeramie, who expertly tried to move her gaze towards Cameron, who was waiting just a few feet away, wearing a cap and green jacket.

With the pair being apart for the holidays, Megan decided to spend some time with her friends Anh and Audrey, who were in on the surprise with Cameron, who picked a special spot to pop the question.
The trail, known as Hunter Creek, is where the pair first took a hiking date in 2020.
As Jeramie’s video camera continued to roll, he captured his wholesome exchange with Megan before moving her eye-line towards Cameron, who patiently waited for everything to click.
Then, when it did, a stunned Megan covered her mouth in shock, dropping her backpack and letting her hair down before Cameron slowly took a ring out of his pocket.
The couple saw the funny side of Megan being shocked to see a familiar face and not noticing her boyfriend just a few feet away as she thought he was back home visiting family over the holidays.
Jeramie later shared a video of the moment, which took place on December 31, 2023, on social media a year later, where it went viral with viewers praising Jeramie’s effort and Megan immediately letting her hair down for the big moment.
Megan said: “The response has been really sweet.
“A lot of our friends also think it was an accurate display of how oblivious I can be sometimes, and it’s given a lot of people a good laugh.

“It makes us laugh too. We love rewatching our video – the full proposal, a lot of jumping, and a lot of happy squealing.
“I was dumbfounded – at a complete loss for words, and my brain couldn’t comprehend that he was in front of me.
“He wasn’t even supposed to be in the state.
“But as soon as I saw his hand going into his pocket and taking out the little wooden box from Brilliant Earth, where I had once mentioned my favorite ring was from, my brain knew exactly what was happening.

“I threw off my backpack and took my hair down.
“Honestly, I can only explain what I experienced as pure bliss.
“I was still trying to understand how he was standing in front of me while he was proposing.
“As cheesy as it sounds, it was like I was having the best dream in the world.
“Even throughout the evening I kept saying, ‘Are you really here?’ ‘I can’t believe you’re here!’
