This is the emotional moment a man surprises his girlfriend by proposing at 8500ft while piloting a plane with her on board for the very first time.

Cody Benham, 24, was left on cloud nine after he popped the question to Brielle Moon, 20, leaving her in complete shock at the romantic gesture.

Brielle appears slightly nervous as the couple take off and fly between the mountain passes of Northern Utah, USA, with Cody – who received his Private Pilot Certificate on Jan 4 – at the controls.

About 30 minutes into the scenic flight, Cody tells Brielle he is going to show her a 45 degree turn to the left, then the right, before he begins the maneuver.

After the steep turns, Cody asks Brielle if she trusts him even more after flying with him, and after saying they love each other, Cody diverts her attention and pulls out an engagement ring he had hidden onboard.

An emotional Brielle fights back the tears as she agrees to marry him and they give each other a mid-flight kiss before showing off the stunning ring to the camera.

Cody said: “About a month ago I was discussing how I should propose to Brielle with my roommate.

“I wanted to do something original, creative, sentimental, and be sure Brielle wouldn’t be suspicious about the activity leading up to it.

“I jokingly talked about taking her for a flight and proposing. Over the next few weeks that idea stayed on my mind, and the more I thought I of it, the more I realized it was the idea I wanted.

“I then had to decide how I would ‘pop the question’ in the middle of the flight.

“I decided I would show her somewhat scary maneuvers in the airplane, in this case “steep turns” or 45 degree turns.

“Then I would ask her if she trusted me, if she loved me, and then I would ask her to marry me.”

In the video Brielle is visibly nervous during the flight in the DiamondStar DA-40, and she really had no idea Cody was about to propose.

She said: “Initially I was scared and concerned as I think the beginning of the video shows – but once we got off the ground it wasn’t so bad until he was trying to show me some ‘tricks’.

“Usually I hate surprises and like to be in the loop but I really had no idea.

“I was so shocked when he proposed I seriously didn’t believe him. It still doesn’t feel real that I get to marry my very best friend.

“I’ve gotten so many messages from friends and family saying how they love the video and it made them cry and even my dad said he loved it.”

Cody has wanted to become a pilot ever since he was about 14 and at age 22 he started the Aviation Program and Utah Valley University.

He added: “I began taking instruction on flying in August 2017. I passed the check ride and received my Private Pilot Certificate on January 4th, 2018.

“It’s always been my dream to fly commercially. When the idea came to me that I could propose by taking Brielle on a flight I seized the opportunity given I was now licensed to do so.”
