Paralyzed Bride Secretly Trained To Walk Down The Aisle And Left Her Groom In Tears

A bride who became paralyzed while pregnant brought her groom to tears of pride when she walked down the aisle under her own strength.

Kamilah was able-bodied when she and her now-husband, Jaracus, were pregnant with their daughter.

Having initially seen signs of weak side paralysis, facial drooping and a lupus rash on her cheeks in November 2022, Kamilah’s condition severely worsened a few months later.

During a movie night with Jaracus and their two-year-old son, Kamilah collapsed and could no longer move her legs.

She was admitted to hospital, where she was nonverbal, and for the next month and a half she could not move any part of her body.

Kamilah was diagnosed with Transverse myelitis (TM), a rare inflammatory neurological disorder affecting both sides of a section of the spinal cord, and over time she regained feeling and speech “from the top down,” but could no longer feel below her hips.

Through rehab and strength-building, Kamilah gave birth to her daughter in May 2023.

Jaracus later proposed, and the couple decided that they would get married at San Francsico Hall on May 5, 2025.

During that time, Kamilah said she saw a video of another wheelchair user, Chelsie Hill, building up her strength to walk down the aisle, which she thought would be a beautiful surprise for Jaracus and would provide additional motivation she needed to continue her recovery.

Kamilah had never used her walker out in public, and in the build-up to the wedding she contacted her wedding coordinator about secretly bringing it to the venue.

On the big day itself, she went through the earlier part of the wedding and first-looks seated in her wheelchair to not raise suspicion.

But as she made her way to the top of the aisle, where her father was waiting, Kamilah’s wedding planner approached her and brought over her walker and bouquet.

The moment surprised even Kamilah’s dad, who was visibly emotional, and around the room she could hear guests whispering, “She’s going to walk.”

As she then made her way forward, Kamilah said time moved incredibly slowly, with every step being a sign of her resilience.

At the end of the aisle, a proud Jaracus stood with tears rolling down his face, in a beautiful moment that the couple’s wedding photographer, Angel Abarca, captured.

Kamilah’s content creator for the wedding, Arni, of Hype Bestie, also shot footage of the moment, with both she and Angel later sharing posts on social media that went viral.

Kamilah said: “Seeing my husband’s emotional response was overwhelming and deeply validating.

“His pride, love, and recognition of my strength reminded me that love is not just about the easy moments it’s about showing up courageously, embracing vulnerability, and facing challenges together.

“The response has been incredible.

“Friends and family who witnessed the moment said it was one of the most powerful displays of strength and love they had ever seen.

“On social media, the video has inspired countless people.

“Messages poured in from those moved by courage, resilience, and determination on display.

“It has sparked conversations about finding strength in vulnerability and redefining what a meaningful wedding moment looks like.
