Dr Dean Waters, 92, and his wife Gwendolyn, 91, had no idea what granddaughter Til Lefebvre, 24, had planned as they sat in their Florida home, waiting to “test” special pillows.

Til is the youngest grandchild on her mother’s side and shares a close bond with her grandparents.

As soon as she found out she was pregnant, she couldn’t wait to tell her grandpa, a retired OB-GYN, and grandma, a former labor and delivery nurse.

Due to their professions, the couple were incredibly invested in Til’s pregnancy journey, and when Til’s waters broke at 2am, she was straight on the phone to Dean and Gwendolyn.

Her twins, David and Dean, were born three weeks early, and so they needed to be kept in the NICU For two weeks to help with their breathing and to be bottle fed.

She’d promised her grandparents she and husband Dylan, 26, would pay them a visit with the twins before moving from Florida to South Carolina for work – but Til wanted to make it a special surprise.

The couple came up with a clever idea that Dylan, a personal trainer, was helping out with a research project tied to NICUs and the elderly.

The project, Dean and Gwendolyn were told, was to test out which pillows were most comfortable to help elderly people hold a newborn baby.

On January 10, Dean and Gwendolyn were told they were due to hold some weights on the pillows for 10 minutes, simulating those of babies – but in walked Til and Dylan, holding the twins.

The sweet moment was captured on video by Til’s sister, Mele, as their grandparents lovingly looked down at the new members of the family lying on their pillows.

“Before my husband and I moved from Florida to South Carolina for work we promised my grandparents they would meet the twins, and it was the best experience.

“I texted them a picture of the ultrasound and my grandmother said my grandfather was in awe.

“I was so excited to tell them and share this season of life with them.

“Every ultrasound, I brought the pictures, and they just admired it all and I always knew they were a call away in case I needed something.”
