Teen Who Lost His Dad In The Line Of Duty Gets Back His Father’s Truck

When the familiar truck rounded the corner outside Slidell Police Department, 15-year-old Levi Seals Gregory didn’t need to see a license plate or hear a name – he knew it instantly, the way a child just knows the things their parent loved most.

The window rolled down, and Levi leaned in, resting his arms on the frame as tears came. More than seven years of missing his father, Officer Jason Seals, collapsed into a single moment on that February afternoon.

Jason was a motorcycle officer with Slidell Police Department in Louisiana – and to his two kids, he was everything. Lilianna, now 19, was his princess. Levi was his partner. Both children would listen for the rumble of his motorcycle pulling in at the end of a shift, then watch him take off his vest – their favorite time of day.

But on September 25, 2018, Jason was leading a funeral procession when a car pulled out in front of him, sending him flying from his motorcycle. He was rushed to hospital and survived the initial impact, but passed away that November. He was just 35 years old.

The loss hit Levi and Lilianna hard. Over the years, the siblings held tight to their father’s memory – but they had almost nothing physical to hold onto. Of everything, Levi knew what he wanted most: his daddy’s truck.

“He knew how much his daddy loved that truck and there’s something about a boy, his father, and a truck,” his mom, Kristen Gregory, said.

But the family had no idea who had the vehicle or where to even begin looking. About a year ago, Levi started talking about wishing he could have his dad’s truck as his first car. Kristen asked around, but nobody had answers.

Six months later, Levi asked someone else, who offered a single lead – the first name of the person who might have it. But still, the trail went cold.

Then, about a month before the surprise, Lilianna and Kristen were driving together when Lee Brice’s “I Drive Your Truck” came through the speakers. Lilianna looked at her mom.

“Mama, we HAVE to find Daddy’s truck for Levi,” she said.

Kristen told her daughter she didn’t know how – she’d already asked and come up empty. But Lilianna wasn’t giving up. She got the first name from her brother, then turned to Facebook, searching until she found the man – and, on his page, a photo of her father’s truck.

She messaged him, explained the story, and the owner agreed to sell the truck back for such a meaningful reason.

With the truck finally in their possession, Kristen knew exactly where the surprise needed to happen. Jason’s former colleagues at Slidell Police Department had become like family over the years – the kids’ “bonus uncles.”

“We know Levi always associates the police department with his daddy,” Kristen said. “We reached out to some of his bonus uncles and they helped set up the surprise.”

Outside the station, the truck turned the corner, and Levi recognized it immediately. He pressed himself into the open window, overwhelmed.

Kristen struggled to find the right words for what she felt watching her son in that moment.

“Tears of joy, relief, and finally feeling like he was whole again and his daddy was smiling down knowing his truck was where it belonged,” she said.

Since sharing the video, the response has stunned the family. Kristen said she is shocked by how many people can relate – people who have lost loved ones and longed for something of theirs to hold onto.

But for Kristen, the story isn’t about loss. It’s about what Lilianna did, and the stranger who said yes.

“The big reason I put it out there was for people to see how the love of a sister and the kindness of a stranger can create such happiness in a child,” she said. “If we did a selfless act for others, how much joy could we bring in this ugly world?”
