A nurse mom was given a sweet surprise on her 50th birthday when she thought she was heading to help a patient, only to discover her daughter, who had flown across the country, hiding in a hospital bed.
Mariesa Genzale was determined to be in Seattle, Washington, for her single mom Angela’s big day, given all her mother’s support over the years.
Having raised two children independently and worked as a labor and delivery nurse for more than 30 years, Angela had encouraged Mariesa to chase her dream of becoming an actor and moving to New York.
And so, knowing she wanted to return home for her mom’s milestone birthday, Mariesa reached out to a nurse with whom Angela works.

Having arrived at Swedish Hospital in Issaquah, Washington, Mariesa was told her mom was out of the wing, overseeing a nurse meeting.
This provided the perfect opportunity for Mariesa to ready the surprise, with several nurses taking her to an empty room and hiding her in a bed.
Then, Angela was told to head to the room where a patient needed to see her.
So convincing was the setup, given that the nurses had placed the likes of IV drips and other materials around Mariesa’s bed, that Angela didn’t suspect a thing as she walked into the room.

But then, when she looked beneath the covers, she saw her smiling daughter, who burst out laughing with the nurses as her “best friend” mom had to take a seat from the shock.
Mariesa captured the moment on video on March 23, 2019, but she didn’t share it on social media until this year.
She said: “My mom is a single parent to two kids and has worked hard as a labor and delivery nurse for over 30 years to support us.

“As soon as my mom got to the end of the bed, I froze and looked up at her, watching her face register that I was not a patient, but her daughter, who she thought was 3,000 miles away.
“Seeing her collapse onto the couch laughing, crying, and shocked was incredibly sweet and made the insane travel day I had had to get there all so worth it.”
