Brave Firefighters Save Horse Trapped in Icy Water

A horse trapped up to its neck in icy water is safe and sound thanks to the quick work of firefighters who pulled it to safety.

The Loveland Fire Rescue Authority responded to a call near South County Road 13, where a horse had wandered onto a frozen pond and fallen through the ice in Loveland, Colorado.

“[The horse] found its way through a fence and onto a frozen pond,” the department explained in a Facebook post.

Donning ice suits, firefighters bravely entered the frigid water, using axes and sledgehammers to break a path through the ice to the stranded horse. With their help, the horse was able to make its way back to shore.

“The rescued horse was warming up and recovering as crews picked up equipment and returned to service,” the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority reported.
