With the cost of laying a new, bespoke parquet floor reaching up to $30,000, the couple were stunned when they saw what was hiding under the tired, old carpet.

Charlie and Neha, both 30, met in school and have been together since they were 18, dreaming of one day buying their first home together.

They made that purchase earlier this year, settling on a 1950s abode they saw as a renovation project – something they always wanted to try.

Having received the keys, Neha and Charlie decided to take a look under the carpet to see what they were working with.

They were expecting to find a cavity or concrete floor, but when they took a glance at the first spot of parquet flooring, they were stunned and fortunate to capture the big reveal on video.

The pair later shared that video online, where they have been documenting their renovations, which they expect to take around two years, given that they are carrying out most of the work themselves.
