Woman Converts Disused Attic Space Into Stunning Walk-in Closet

A new homeowner who transformed her disused attic space into a spectacular walk-in closet has captivated social media users in love with the result.

Cori James, 27, always dreamed of having a walk-in closet like the ones she’d seen on TV growing up, and when viewing a potential new home in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, her vision started coming to life.

Over the years, she tried to recreate that vibe, and after saving for her first “shabby” flat while working as a waitress aged 19, she used the spare bedroom as a makeshift closet – but it wasn’t the vision she had.

Almost a decade later and now searching for a forever home, Cori initially considered a new-build before coming across the Johnstown property.

While touring the home, she found stairs up to an attic right next to the main bedroom.

Cori thought this space was the perfect opportunity to make her closet dream come true, and having purchased the property, she and her partner, Mike, started working on plans for the space.

Out went a tired-looking cream carpet, and in came a stunning marble floor and wall-to-wall closet space, which Mike, Cori’s dad, and his friend helped build.

Cori documented her journey creating the closet between December 1 and December 31, 2024, on social media.

In a final reveal video, she gave a first-person view of the empty old space before shooting the same shot entering her new closet through a fingerprint scanner, panning around the finished room.

She said: “I have always wanted an enormous walk-in closet, like the ones on TV or Pinterest.

“We looked at building a home for a while before our house popped up on the market, and some of the house plans had a two-story primary bedroom with the bedroom on the first floor and the whole second floor dedicated to a closet.

“So, when we saw our house had this attic right beside the main bedroom, it reminded me of those house plans.

“Overall, our friends, family, and social media response has been very positive.

“A message I hope people take from the story is to chase your goals.

“When I was 19 years old, I used the waitressing money I had saved to get my first apartment.

“It was shabby, but it had two bedrooms, and I used the spare bedroom as my walk-in closet.”

Reacting to the video, which went viral on social media with millions of views, one viewer said: “The way my jaw dropped at the reveal! So B-E-A-Utiful.”

Another commenter added: “I got an immediate Princess Diaries flashback.”
