Kyla and Evan started trying for a baby two years into their marriage, but they came up against “struggle after struggle,” Kyla said.

The couple experienced a miscarriage in 2019, and Kyla had to go through surgeries, tests, and eventually intensive fertility treatments that involved daily injections, ultrasounds and bloodwork.

After their daughter, Elsie, 5, was born in 2020, the couple then went through another loss on their fertility journey before their son, Garrett, 3, was born in 2023.

Having started trying for their third child, the couple then moved, which meant they had to find a new fertility clinic.

That clinic, Kyla said, was being “extremely difficult,” not wanting to follow the same protocol that had seen her fall pregnant in the past, with each cycle not leading to pregnancy.

Kyla took a break from treatment to focus on her health and mental well-being, and when her daughter made the April Fool’s comment, she decided to take a test with nothing to lose.

Later that day, having discovered she was pregnant, Kyla waited for Evan to walk through their bathroom door, before holding up her positive test.

The 32-year-old dad’s jaw immediately dropped, and he flicked on the light switch and walked to the test to take a closer look.

Having seen the result, Evan jumped off the ground with joy, put his hands on his head in shock, and then proceeded to jump and jump with excitement.

Kyla later shared a video of the moment on social media, where it received a viral response and nearly five million views.

“He was jumping up and down and just so excited.

“It was so wonderful to share a genuine surprise together after years of timing everything and never having a true surprise.

“I knew he’d react that way!

“I was just so excited to have this moment after years of medication and timed scientific moments – it was that moment we had always wanted.

“Just excited together. Pregnancy after loss is also really scary, so I was grateful to not be alone in it after telling him.

“Nothing is impossible even when you’re very convinced it is.
