A couple received the surprise of a lifetime when their granddaughter unexpectedly walked through the door carrying their three-month-old great grandson they’d only ever met through a screen.

Stephanie Meredith, 35, from Alexandria, Virginia, welcomed son Jackson on March 17, 2026, but due to health reasons, her grandparents Tony and Carol Oliveri were unable to travel from New York to visit.

Instead, Stephanie made it a habit to FaceTime her grandparents every week so they wouldn’t miss Jackson’s early milestones, from his first coos and smiles to rolling over and playing with toys.

The family originally planned to finally introduce Jackson in person during a 4th of July family reunion.

However, when Stephanie decided to join her dad on a camping trip in New York, she and her mom orchestrated an elaborate early surprise for June 15.

Knowing Tony and Carol were already expecting Stephanie’s mother for dinner, they parked down the street so the grandparents wouldn’t spot them walking up to the house.

Stephanie filmed as her mother walked through the door carrying little Jackson, capturing a priceless, tear-jerking reaction from the unsuspecting great-grandparents.

Stephanie said: “While we were expecting my grandparents to be excited, we didn’t expect that reaction and were a bit worried that my grandpa might have a heart attack!

“Their joy was infectious and both my mom and I started crying, meanwhile Jackson was super cool and calm and even seemed to recognize my grandparents’ voices.”

The family spent the rest of the afternoon and evening together, taking a walk around the block and introducing the baby to all of the neighbors.

Stephanie noted that her grandfather has been battling a major illness over the last year, making the weekly FaceTimes a vital distraction and the in-person reunion incredibly special.

She added: “I knew this moment would be monumental for them but never imagined how shocked they would be.

“I hope people see this and call or FaceTime their grandparents or their parents.

“It means so much to them to watch you or your kids grow up even when they can’t be there physically. Cherish every moment you have with them.”
