A new soldier graduating from basic training experienced two huge life milestones at once when his wife tapped him out, then surprised him with her pregnancy news.
Brianna Barbarin, 29, from Harvey, Louisiana, found she was pregnant just a few days before her husband, Dylani, 29, was set to head off for basic training with the United States Army.
Because Brianna’s last pregnancy was high risk, she decided not to tell her husband the news, as she did not want him to worry while he was away.
For 10 weeks, Brianna bravely kept her secret, until she headed to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for Dylani’s graduation.
After the Family Day ceremony ended, on July 16, Brianna looked for Dylani in the crowd of new soldiers, before heading over with her mother-in-law and presenting her husband with a box.
A proud Dylani then opened the gift, inside which he discovered the likes of a pregnancy scan to break his wife’s news.
The scale of the moment caused the new private to cover his mouth in shock, before he then headed in for an emotional hug with his family.
Brianna and Dylani’s due date is January 2027, and they won’t know the baby’s gender until the end of August.
Speaking of the surprise, Brianna said: “Because my last pregnancy was very high risk, I made the decision not to tell him right away.
“I didn’t want him carrying the weight of worry while he was away, and I wanted him to be able to fully focus on the journey ahead of him.
“Family Day ceremony had finally ended, and families rushed to reunite with their loved ones.
“I spotted my husband in the lineup but quickly lost him in the crowd.
“My mother-in-law was holding the box with my pregnancy announcement.
“When I finally found him, we embraced and cried.
“Then I handed him the box and waited, heart racing, for his reaction.
“Seeing his reaction brought me so much relief.
“After carrying this big secret for 10 weeks, I could finally exhale.
“More than anything, I was overjoyed to see how happy he was.
“That moment meant everything to me.”
