A girl who shared a single room with her mom at her grandparents’ house for the first eight years of her life screamed and jumped for joy when a scavenger hunt led her to their first ever home.
Marissa, from Houston, Texas, was celebrating her graduation with big career ambitions ahead, when she discovered she was pregnant with Mireya just four days later.
Marissa put her career on hold and immediately focused on motherhood, moving into her parents’ home and only taking contract jobs so she could give her daughter the love she felt she needed.
As the years progressed, Mireya had a wonderful early childhood living with her grandparents, Marissa said, but the proactive single mom “felt an urge, a push… a desire for more.”

It became clear Mireya was outgrowing the space, too, so Marissa started to work more overtime and took travel opportunities within the healthcare IT field she works in.
Having quietly searched and found a place that was perfect, Marissa made the decision to purchase the home New Years Eve 2025, starting 2026 off on a good footing.
On January 4 Marissa told her daughter they were heading off for a scavenger hunt, that took the pair around the city, and ended outside their new home.
It was there that Marissa held a key and started a riddle that told how their new journey started with the object, and having let themselves into the home, Mireya’s next clue was to climb the stairs.
As her daughter completed the challenge – which saw her mom fighting back tears as she revealed that Mireya was now at her room – the eight-year-old said in shock, “We’re going to live here?”, before giving her mom a huge hug, screaming, and leaping around.
Marissa said: “I found out I was pregnant with Mireya four days after graduation and went straight into motherhood, staying home while working contract jobs so I could give her the attention and love she desired.
“We lived with my parents in my childhood home, and we shared a room for many years.
“As my daughter got older, she began expressing her desire for a new home.
“We loved living with my parents, her grandparents, as it was a loving and supportive environment; however, we both outgrew the space.

“I created the scavenger hunt and brought my mom along the journey.
“I was so excited and eager to surprise my daughter.
“Witnessing her joy when she realized she was in her new home was such a heartfelt and sincere moment – it made everything worth it.
“I’ve cried, prayed, and worked hard for this moment.
“I hope I can inspire someone to trust God’s timing, even when your wait feels longer than you think you deserve, and even when you feel rejected.
“Never stop having gratitude during the waiting season.”
