A creative boyfriend turned their city into a romantic maze – leading his girlfriend through a scavenger hunt that ended with a rooftop proposal.
Hunter Arenz and his girlfriend, Kim, have created many special memories across the City of Houston, Texas, and one of their favorite things to do is to reminisce about events and milestones, they said.
Many of the couple’s favorite memories have involved friends and family, too, and this was in the back of 27-year-old Hunter’s mind when he wanted to plan an extra special proposal.
He settled on a scavenger hunt across the city, which would incorporate both significant stops and involve Kim’s friends and family along the way.
On the day of the big surprise, Kim, 26, who was living in an apartment at the time, thought she was heading out for a late birthday dinner, but when she arrived downstairs, she found only Hunter’s dad waiting for her.
She was then presented with a video that Hunter had pre-shot, which explained to her that she would actually be heading to a Tex-Mex restaurant where the couple had their first date.
A stunned Kim went along with the journey, and at the restaurant she was joined by her mom for a meal.
Then, after another video from Hunter to explain the reason for the next stop, Kim headed to the couple’s favorite ice cream shop to meet her maid of honor and another friend, before a walk in a park where they take their dog saw Kim greeted by friends who had flown in to surprise her.
The final stop before Hunter’s big moment was at a workout class with his sister, and Kim was then taken to a rooftop bar overlooking the city.
There, she was greeted by Hunter, who took her under an umbrella towards the view, before getting down on one knee in front of a Marry Me sign to ask the big question.
An emotional Kim covered her mouth in shock, before nodding and giving Hunter a loving embrace.
Hunter, who has since married Kim, told Happilynews.com exclusively: “From early on, our relationship has always included meaningful experiences, reminiscing on our milestones, and involving our families.
“I wanted a proposal that reflected that, so creating a scavenger hunt felt like a special way to celebrate our story.
“I coordinated with her friends and family to be at each stop, so she felt supported and surprised at every turn.
“She is the kindest and most selfless person I have ever met so I really wanted to do something big and special for her because she deserves it.
“I was excited and nervous throughout the entire day.
“As Kim made her way through each stop, family and friends texted me updates, and with every update I became more emotional and eager for the final moment.
“When she finally arrived, everything fell into place perfectly.
“It was pouring rain, but as soon as we stepped onto the terrace to propose, the rain completely cleared up.
“Seeing everything clicked for her with all the clues, the people she loves, and then realizing it was leading to a proposal was overwhelming in the best way. Her reaction was everything I hoped for: emotional, shocked, and full of joy.
“That moment will always be one of the best of my life.”
