The Wedding Emcees Gave A “Safety Briefing,” But It Wasn’t What Anyone Expected

A pair of emcees had wedding guests in stitches when they planned a surprise flight-attendant-style skit to break down instructions for the big day.

James Cooper and Paisley Morning, from Ontario, Canada, were seen as the natural emcee choices for couple Rhiana and Thomas Coulter.

James, an actor, is Rhiana’s sister’s long-time boyfriend; whereas Paisley is a close friend of Rhiana and had asked her and Thomas to emcee her own wedding.

Ahead of the big day, on October 25, James and Paisley brainstormed unique emcee ideas online, settling on a style that would see James act like a flight attendant, while Paisley read out the wedding instructions.

One of the running gags had James mixing flight-style directions with a very non-flight-approved glass of wine.

Then, on the day itself, in Muskoka, Ontario, the pair stepped up to the podium, with James wearing a lift vest.

One joke saw James combine the standard in-flight oxygen mask instructions with a glass of wine, which Paisley – who had said the flight was heading to Eternal Love – hinted guests could strap to their head.

Paisley also encouraged guests to check that the person sitting to their side is seated in an upright position – at least to start the evening – and that all emotional baggage is stowed under the seat in front.

The lines had guests in stitches, and though Rhiana and Thomas were outside, waiting for their grand entrance, they said they could tell by the reaction that the performance had gone well.

It also went down even better online.

After wedding videographer Tom Guest shared a couple of clips on his social media pages, the videos of James and Paisley’s skit soon went viral.

Rhiana and Thomas, who were on their honeymoon at the time, said they had to turn notifications off their phones because of how the posts had blown up.

She said: “Behind the doors all we could hear is a room of laughter and specifically my parents laugh.

“Based on the pitch, I knew my mom was laugh-crying.

“It blew up on social media very quickly.

“Thomas and I were on our honeymoon, and our phones were blowing up so much we had to turn post notifications off.

“The internet’s reaction was very positive and little crazy but I’m not surprised because it is very hilarious.

“Paisley and James did such an incredible job executing the skit which I think is why it got so much attention.”
