Dad Elias had no idea what daughter Naomi Polanco, 26, has planned when he walked into her hospital room in San Diego, California, on June 11.

Both before and after the birth, Naomi and her husband kept their planned name a secret, even frustrating family members who had called following their baby’s arrival, asking for details.

So, when Elias, 46, walked into Naomi’s hospital room, he first laid eyes on the sleeping newborn, before reading a plaque that at next to him, which read, “Cristiano Elias.”

As soon as Elias saw the name, he bent over in shock and welled up as he took everything in.

Naomi and her husband are huge soccer fans, and so they decided to give their son the first name Cristiano, after the legendary Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

But they had always wanted to give him the middle name Elias as a loving tribute to Naomi’s dad, who has always been great to his other grandchildren, she said.

Naomi, who captured her dad’s emotional reaction on video, said: “I had Cristiano at 5:33am, and once I had him, everyone wanted to know his name over FaceTime and asked for photos.

“Nobody knew his first name, either, because if I were to say his first name, everyone would question his middle name and I felt it would be suspicious or obvious – we wanted it all to be a surprise.

“Seeing my dad’s reaction was something I’ll cherish forever.

“Watching him cry had me in tears once they left the hospital – words can’t explain a moment like this.”
