Three brothers who desperately dreamed of a little sister couldn’t hide their excitement while unwrapping their newborn sibling’s blankets to discover which color babygrow they were wearing.
Brothers Layken, 10, Liam, 8, and Lane, two, from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Texas, had been eagerly wondering what gender their newest sibling could be, as mom Madesta waited until the birth to know.
On February 3, a few hours after she had the baby, Layken, Liam and Lane entered the room wearing “Big Brother” t-shirts, with Madesta holding their sleeping sibling wrapped up on her lap.
Madesta then asked each to guess what they thought their sibling’s gender could be – two saying a girl, one saying a boy – before Layken and Liam unwrapped the blankets.
If the baby was wearing a blue babygrow it was a boy; or pink, a girl.
When two eldest brothers saw a splash of pink, they immediately clenched their fists and fought back overexcitement, before hugging the younger sister they’d hoped for.
After their excitement the trio each took turns holding their baby sister.
Mom Madesta said: “Each of my boys are so sweet and caring – they are gentle with their sister, and they knew this was our last baby and wanted a little sister to protect.
“Dad definitely wanted to have a Daddy’s Girl.
“I have always been teased about taking so many videos and pictures of my children and family, but after losing my nana, who was basically our family videographer at family functions, and my momma, it made me realize just how short life really is so I cherish the memories I am able to capture.
“So many family, friends and coworkers were so anxious and excited to find out, and, most of all, were hoping we would finally get a girl – but I think in the back of their minds, and mine, they were doubting it was even possible for me to have a girl.
“My mom had four girls and married a man with three girls, so there was only one gender.
“So, I thought I was sure to have only boys, but I’m glad I was wrong because God knew my heart needed a sweet daughter who also has three wonderful big brothers.”
