This is the heart-warming moment a step-daughter creates an elaborate scavenger hunt for clues that lead her stepdad to surprise adoption papers.

Lacee – formerly Nichols – dreamed up the idea as a way of surprising and thanking her step-dad, Jason Jusino, on his 35th birthday.

The hunt begins at the family’s home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where Jason is given a set of coordinates to enter into his GPS.

It leads him to the first envelope containing a single word – which he is not allowed to open until the end – along with another set of coordinates.

After an action-packed day visiting some of their favourite places and unearthing the hidden clues, the family finally sits down for food

There a waitress hides the fifth and final envelope containing the last word of the sentence, which when opened helps spell out “Will you be my dad?”

At that precise moment Lacee hands Jason the official documents showing her application to be adopted by him and legally change her last name to his.

Overcome with emotion, Jason can hardly believe his eyes as he reads the papers.

Lacee’s mom Melany Jusino said: “Jason took on the responsibility of raising my children as his own.

“Lacee’s biological father walked away from her when she was just a small baby and denied he was her father.

“But Jason without hesitation took on the task of helping me raise her as his own for the last eight years.

“This year, now that Lacee is of legal age, she wanted to repay him by becoming officially adopted.

“But to do so, she wanted to do something special, so put together a scavenger hunt on his birthday.”

Melany, who filmed the day’s escapades on March 29 as they hunted for the envelopes hidden by Lacee, explained that the idea had been planned for over three months.

But adoption was something her daughter had wanted to do for a number of years.

They planned the hunt while Jason was at work, with Lacee taking the reins and intricately planning out the day, crafting the clues and envelopes to lead Jason towards his surprise gift.

Melany added: “He had to find each location using his GPS and the coordinates Lacee left there.

“Along with the coordinates there would be single envelope for him to retrieve.

“As he gathered each envelope, he was not allowed to open them until the very end. And inside each envelope was a single word printed on paper that would form a sentence once he’d found them all.

“It was difficult as there were many times when we almost slipped up and revealed it during the video. We were bursting at the seems -it was definitely a challenge to keep it together!

“But when he figured out the sentence, and Lacee presented the adoption papers, it was truly amazing.”
