These two adorable people with Down syndrome have defied all odds.

Maryanne and Tommy Pilling have been together for more than two decades, but when they first met, people “doubted they would last”, according to Inside Edition.

The couple met at a local training centre for people with learning disabilities in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, United Kingdom.

The two were dating for 18 months until Tommy finally popped the big question – and Maryanne didn’t hesitate to say yes.

The couple married shortly after and put their longevity down to the fact Tommy sings Love Me Tender to Maryanne every day before pointing to his ring and saying ‘I wear this everyday. I married her, I did.’

The couple are still very much in love, with Maryanne telling Tommy she loves him at least three times a day.

And incredibly, the couple continue to live independently in their own flat with the help of Maryanne’s sister Lindi who is their full time carer.

Now, 22 years later, the two are still going strong and are just as in love as the day they met – an inspiration to us all!
