A girlfriend received a double surprise while on a walk when she “found” her dream puppy – and a marriage proposal.
Since Cara Ollmann, 24, from Missoula, Montana, moved in with her boyfriend, Jace Jarvis, 25, she had been asking to add a furry friend to their home.
Getting a dog made perfect sense as the pair love spending time outdoors, hiking, and both she and Jace grew up around dogs.
But little did Cara know, Jace had been on the waiting list for a golden retriever puppy. And when he received news that one was ready to collect, decided to tie the surprise into the proposal he had been planning.
On the day, the couple ran a 10k race in the morning, and had family in town a to cheer them on.
After the race, the family were set to head out for a steak dinner, but Jace suggested that he and Cara head for a quick walk because his legs were sore.
On the Grant Creek Trail that the couple often walk, Jace convinced Cara to head to a bridge they always cross, where the 24-year-old saw there was a puppy tied up.
Cara began to think: if the dog was named Sooner, it was her puppy, as that was the name she and Jace had discussed.
But when she read the 10-week-old’s collar, she saw a different message, “Marry me?”
Cara froze in complete shock, while Jace calmly got down on one knee and popped the question.
The sweet moment was captured on video and in a beautiful series of photos, which Cara then shared online to a viral response.
After the proposal, the couple and Sooner headed to celebrate with glasses of champagne, where Cara received a third surprise of her dad flying into town for the big moment.
The couple now plan to get married in Montana in July 2027.
Cara said: “While we were getting ready, Jace suggested we go on a quick walk because his legs were sore.
“It was about to rain, and I honestly didn’t want to go, but he kept insisting we walk to the bridge and back.
“As we got closer, I saw a puppy tied up to the bridge.

“I immediately looked at Jace and said, ‘Oh my gosh, did you get me this puppy?’
“He told me to go look at the name tag.
“In my head, I was thinking, ‘If it says Sooner, it’s mine.’
“I bent down, looked at the tag… and it said, ‘Marry me?’
“I turned around completely in shock, and he was already down on one knee proposing.
“I was absolutely speechless.
“Not only did I get my dream puppy, but I got engaged to my best friend.
“Honestly, I think it took me almost a full week for everything to sink in.
“I always imagined I’d say something perfect in that moment, but to be honest, I blacked out and can barely remember what I said.”
