A man who had lost his best-friend dog of 14 years cried tears of happiness when his wife surprised him with a new puppy.
Blain Reid, from D’Iberville, Mississippi, had previous dog, Jak, right by his side during some of the most formative years of his life.
The long-haired Dachshund was with Blain throughout college, young adulthood and when his son came into the world.
Having built up such a strong bond over nearly a decade and a half, Blain was left devastated when Jak passed away.
Over the two years that followed, Blain took his time to move on, but one day he let slip to his wife, Devin, that he thought he was ready.
He revealed if he had a new dog, he would call it Diesel, and so Devin secretly got to work on finding her husband a new best-friend pooch.
Having found a reputable breeder, Devin an English Cream Dachshund, and drove home where she presented Blain with a gift bag, which he opened to discover a dog collar with the name “Diesel” on it.
When Blain realized what the gift meant, he immediately burst into tears, heading over to Blain’s car to meet his new dog.
The moment, which took place on December 10, 2021, was captured on video by Devin, who shared a viral throwback post of the moment in the summer of 2026.
Devin said: “When Blain realized what the collar meant, he immediately burst into tears, following me to the car where he got to meet Diesel himself.
“He was absolutely over the moon, tearing up all night, and even into the next day.
“He had a new best friend, and already loved him with all of his heart.
“Jak was with him during college, young adulthood, the birth of his son, and the very formative years of finding himself.
“Diesel loves going on adventures with his dad.
“Taking the boat out to the islands, kayaking, riding the jet ski with his little goggles and life vest, swimming in the river.
“But his favorite thing is snuggling Dad.
“He is the best napping buddy and gets excited anytime his dad holds him and scratches his neck.”
