A man’s adorable proposal to his new fiancée’s beloved dog didn’t go to plan when the pooch looked at the soft toy diamond ring and shook her head before running away.
Ila Oxman, 27, from the Washington metropolitan area, has seen her red toy poodle, Rosie, aged five, play a big part in her and fiancé Matthew’s relationship.
Rosie adores Matthew, 28, and because she’s been such an important part of their lives, Matthew knew he wanted to include Rosie in one of the couple’s biggest milestones to date.
Having previously proposed to Ila, the 28-year-old later got down on one knee and saw an initially excited and interested Rosie approach him to see what was in the red box he was holding.
But as Matthew opened the box to reveal a giant soft toy of a diamond ring, hilarity ensued, as Rosie simply shook her head at the gift and ran away.
The moment was so ironic, Ila said, as in real life Rosie is obsessed with Matthew.
Ila and Matthew plan to get married in the spring of 2027, with Rosie being present at the wedding.
Ila, who runs a popular social media page about her life with a chronic illness, said: “When Matthew got down on one knee, Rosie was initially excited and interested.
“But the second he opened the ring box, she suddenly shook her head like she was saying ‘no’ and ran off, which made the whole moment even more unforgettable.
“Rosie’s reaction is honestly what made the video.
“Her head shake looked exactly like she was saying ‘no,’ which made it so funny.
“It’s especially ironic because in real life, she’s completely obsessed with Matthew.
“Since we started dating, I’ve kind of become the third wheel. She waits by the door for him, won’t go to bed until he does, and barely wants to hang out with me if he’s around.
“She literally screams when he walks in.
“So, seeing her ‘reject’ him was the most unexpected and perfect moment.”
