A newborn baby stretched his arm out for a cuddle with his twin when they met for the first time since birth after spending the first few days of their lives separated in the NICU.

Meghan Huston, 25, from Knoxville, Tennessee, gave birth to twins Declan and River on March 23 – but with them arriving at 32 weeks, they required Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) support.

However, just five days later, in the NICU at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Megan was holding Declan close to her chest in bed when a nurse placed River next to him.

The following moments were magical – with River bringing an arm out and placing it tightly around Declan’s shoulder, with the pair finally back together again.

Meghan said: “My heart melted – the moment was so sweet and wholesome.

“The amount of love and support we have received has been amazing – I hope people can have a little bit of hope and see the light during hard times.

“The NICU journey is tough but there are some beautiful moments that happen there.”
