A woman who saw a man as her lifelong father figure decided to give him the ultimate gift by surprising him with adoption papers.

Jeff Kirk, 53, is not Casey Dianne’s biological father or stepfather. But despite that fact, she has forever viewed him as the main father figure in her life.

Ever since Casey was born while Jeff dated her mom Lori Russell, he has seen her as his “angel sent from above”, because her birth prompted him to overcome his addictions to alcohol and drugs by going cold turkey. He has been sober ever since.

But despite later learning he was not Casey’s biological father, and his subsequent split from her mom, he voewed to remain in touch with Casey.

Such commitment to keeping her in his life convinced Casey she wanted Jeff to adopt her.

So, ahead of Father’s Day, Casey readied the surprise.

As Jeff sat in his family home, in San Angelo, Texas, she entered the room and presented him with a Father’s Day card.

Inside, a message read: “Thanks for always being there for me.” Accompanying it was a note to encourage him to open an envelope that was also contained inside.

As Jeff began to tear up, realizing what he was reading, Casey headed over to his chair to give him a hug.

Casey, from Colleyville, Texas, said: “The whole time he was reading the card I was nervous and excited because I knew he was probably going to start crying and that was going to make me and everyone else tear up – and it did.

“People that have seen the video that my boyfriend took have told me that it made them cry and tear up and that it’s made their heart full and they loved the thought.

“I hope that people take out of this story that just because someone may not be blood related too you, they can still love you unconditionally and that sometimes a person can come into your life and change it for the better.”
