A dog who vanished from his Florida yard in April has been found 1,000 miles away on Long Island – and nobody has a clue how he got there.
Apollo, 13, disappeared from outside the Joseys’ Ocala home after a neighbor spotted an unfamiliar woman scoop him up off the street. But three months of silence followed as they desperately tried to track down their lost pooch.
Then, out of the blue, a call came in from an animal shelter on Long Island, more than 1,000 miles from home, after staff scanned a stray for a microchip and pulled up the Josey family’s number.
“We had no idea how he got there,” owner Nicholas Josey said.

Josey flew out last Friday to bring Apollo home himself. The pair touched down back in Florida to a full house – the Joseys’ 1-year-old daughter, thrilled to see her old friend again, and a baby boy, Nicholas Jr., born while Apollo was missing and meeting the family dog for the very first time.
Nobody has figured out how a 13-year-old dog covered 1,000-plus miles on his own. But the Joseys think they may have found a clue – a social media post out of Long Island showing a dog they’re convinced is Apollo, put up by someone they’re hoping can explain what happened in between.
Until then, the family is just glad to have him back, and already planning a blowout birthday bash when Apollo turns 14 in August.
