A surfer rescued a penguin stranded in rocks by plucking it out of the waves in a bag.
Diego Santos was flying his drone over a beach in Guaruja, Brazil, on July 5 when he spotted one of the black and white birds floundering in the ocean.
After watching the penguin struggle for 10 minutes, Diego grabbed his surfboard and went running into the Atlantic Ocean.
Heartwarming footage shows the Good Samaritan running back out of the sea alongside a lifeguard with the bedraggled bird safely held in a bag.
Diego said: “I was filming above the beach when I spotted the penguin. It looked safe until it got washed towards the rocks.
“I watched for 10 minutes before I realized it couldn’t get out of the power of the waves and was really struggling.

“At that point I ran home and grabbed my surfboard and went out in the sea to try and rescue it.
“It took me about 30 minutes to reach the penguin and lift it safely into my bag.
“I took it to a nearby bird rescue and they told me he was exhausted. They’re keeping him in to make sure he’s strong enough to be released back into the ocean.”
