A $100,000 donation from a mystery benefactor has rescued a program that feeds and supports seniors – just days after one woman’s plea on local TV to save it.
Wesley Family Services had announced its “Open Your Heart to a Senior” program in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, would close because of a funding shortfall. The program provides food and other basic support to vulnerable seniors.
Diana Holcomb, worried about what the closure would mean for the seniors who rely on it, contacted a local television station to share her concerns.

Within 24 hours of her plea, she had secured enough funding to keep the program going thanks to an anonymous donor watching.
“Wow, somebody out there cares,” she said of her reaction to the news. “It brought me to tears. I just thanked the Lord for working this out.”
Wesley Family Services CEO Doug Muetzel said: “Much to our surprise – and I find this very humbling and overwhelming – we had a donor come forward for the program in Westmoreland County and donate $100,000.”
The program will now continue to serve seniors across Westmoreland County.
