A self-taught DIYer who has built up a huge following on social media has shared her top three everyday eyesores to disguise in creative and decorative ways.
Cassady “Cass” Smith, 32, from Virginia, has amassed a following of almost 1.5m people across platforms, thanks to her unique home makeover videos.
Her love of DIY started around six years ago, when she was a stay-at-home mom and admitted she had very little money to match her high-end tastes.
And so, Cass decided to use her children’s nap times, while her husband was deployed, to decorate her home.

Over time, she moved from smaller works to bigger projects, learning how to use the likes of saws and power tools – but she shares projects and home tips of all sizes on her socials @cassmakeshome.
One video explained how she disguises three everyday objects found in homes – thermostats, air vents, and TVs – while maintaining functionality.
Cass said thermostats are often in areas where art would be hung, so she created a wall-mounted frame hanger to allow artwork to be flipped open like a door, revealing the thermostat behind.
For the TV, Cass opts for an art theme, too.
Her husband wanted a large TV, which she saw as an eyesore – but rather than purchase an expensive framed TV, she built her own.
And then, for vents, Cass removes the old, standardized covers and creates something a more patterned and tasteful.
She said: “My husband was deployed so any time I wanted to get something done, I had to ask someone else.
