Girlfriend Follows Trail Of Signs To Surprise Farm Proposal
Aug 19, 2026
A girlfriend expecting a day of ATV biking was instead driven around her boyfriend's family farm, past sign after sign, to a marriage proposal. Shane McKay, 29, and his now-fiancée Quinn Melnyk, 28, from Carberry, Manitoba, Canada, have been together since December 2016. The couple always knew they wanted to get married, Quinn said, and with Shane being a romantic at heart, he wanted to plan a proposal that was rather unique and very them. Shane knew he needed to come up with an excuse for Quinn to get dressed up, so he said that his parents had invited them for supper on their farm and were planning to take a selection of nice family photos down by the river. Quinn said she didn't suspect a thing and was actually excited about the prospect of heading to the farm to go quad biking in the evening. Having put on her formal clothes, on June 14, Quinn then got ready to be driven to the photography spot – but as she and Shane made their way down a lane, Quinn said she heard "their song" come on. She then saw the first in a row of signs and clocked what was happening immediately, with each sign, a few meters apart, featuring a different word. As the couple traveled down the lane and around a corner, Quinn read signs that spelled out: "Quinn you have been waiting long enough so I will make this short & sweet. I love you & I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. So we have one question to ask..." A stunned Quinn was then met with an arch that read, "Mom, will you marry Dad," which featured photos of the couple's rescue pets, four cats and a dog, sitting beside her engagement ring.
